THE CENTER OF EVERYTHING.

Palatka is less than 100 miles from the bustle of major cities like Jacksonville and Orlando, as well as quickly growing areas like Ocala, Gainesville, and St. Augustine. You might just say Palatka is the center, and the heart…of Northeast Florida. That makes for an easy road trip for a leisurely weekend along the river.

Saturday 8AM SLOW DOWN. YOU HAVE ARRIVED.

Start the morning on the trail. There are dozens to choose from for 2 wheels and 2 feet. For the family, check out Ravine State Gardens. Don’t be afraid to venture off the paved road to experience the spring fed creek and suspension bridge. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous – check out a long list of trails and outdoor activities in the area. Many of which are a part of the Bartram Trail – a series of trails that William Bartram wrote about in his journal: “Travels”

Saturday Afternoon – LUNCH WITH A VIEW

Head over the bridge to Corky Bell’s Seafood at Gator Landing. Enjoy fresh seafood and Southern favorites overlooking the St. John’s River. Fun Fact: Gator Landing is located on a part of the St. John’s River known as “The Devil’s Elbow” and from 1938 until 1995 a marine repair and supply yard occupied the site. Recognizing the beauty and uniqueness of this location, a restaurant was built for others to enjoy the unobstructed view of the “Elbow”. Guests can now keep this tradition alive with Corky Bell and his dedicated crew.

DECISIONS

It’s time to check in to your hotel. If you’re looking for history, Grand Gables Inn was once described as “perhaps the most palatial home in all of Florida” the Major Sherman Conant house was built circa 1884. This hotel is steeped in American history and walking distance to downtown and the St. John’s River.

If you’ve traveled to Palatka by boat (many people do!). You may wish to stay at Crystal Cove Resort. There is a marina right next door to the hotel as well as a restaurant and bar. This is a prime spot for a sunset view.

Saturday Night – AN EVENING AT THE THEATER

What can we say? Larimer Arts Center is just a really cool building doing even cooler things. This building, on the National Registry of Historic Places, used to be the town’s library – but now instead of checking out books you can check out rotating art exhibits, film festivals, or classes. But tonight, enjoy a live theater production from the River City Players.

LATE NIGHT HOT SPOT

After the show, walk over to Angel’s Diner for a late night cheeseburger or fries. Like the locals have been doing for almost 100 years.

SUNDAY 7AM
You wake up early and refreshed – so you head the City dock to hear stories from local fishermen and to catch a few yourself. Your better half heads to the Atmosphere Day Spa – right downtown. Because the world needs to relax – and they can help with that.
You meet up for a late breakfast at Magnolia Café and then enjoy a stroll down Main Street checking out the local shops
THE JOURNEY ENDS
As you watch the sun start to lower in the sky, you realize it’s sadly time to go. Being just a short drive from home, you’ll be back in time to cook that fish you caught for dinner.
